Record a desktop application

Some interfaces cannot be captured as HTML, a Windows application, a virtual machine window, a Java or Citrix client, or a web app whose front end resists a snapshot. Desktop Capture covers those. It records the window as an image, and every editing feature works exactly as it does on a browser step. It runs from the desktop application alone and needs no browser extension.

Take a desktop capture

1. Open the program you want to record and get to the screen you want to start from.
2. In Demo Maker Pro, click Record Desktop.
3. Switch to that program and press the capture key, F9 by default, once for each screen you want in the demo.
4. Click Stop in the capture bar when you are finished.

Each press adds a step to the same step list your browser captures land in, in the order you took them. A single demo can mix both: capture a workflow in Chrome, then continue it in a desktop application, and the finished walkthrough follows the whole thing end to end.

Because there is no page element to measure, a desktop step arrives with a target box in the middle of the screen. Drag it onto whatever you are pointing at, then add the tooltip as usual, see targets and tooltips.

Desktop Capture options

• Capture key. F9 by default. Change it if it clashes with a shortcut the program you are recording already uses, while a capture session is running, that key belongs to Demo Maker Pro and will not reach the other program.
• Capture one window only. By default the key captures whichever window is in front. Pick a program here to always capture that one instead, even while you work in another.
