This policy explains what Demo Maker Pro collects, what it stores, and what it never sees. It covers the desktop application and its Desktop Capture feature, the Demo Maker Pro browser extension for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, and this website.

The short version: nothing is captured until you press Start Recording, or press the capture key during a desktop capture session. What you record stays on your computer, the extension sends it to the desktop app on the same machine, not to us, and desktop captures never leave the app. We only receive a demo if you deliberately publish it, and we never receive anything if you only export HTML files. Demos you publish record anonymous usage figures for you; exported HTML files record nothing.

What the browser extension captures

Recording is something you start deliberately. Nothing is captured while recording is stopped. Visiting a website with the extension installed captures nothing, and your clicks are ignored until you press Start Recording. Recording ends when you press Stop Recording.

While a recording is running, each click captures a step. A step contains:

The page's content, its HTML markup, its stylesheets, and the images and fonts that page uses, embedded so the finished demo works without the original site.
A thumbnail, a small screenshot of the visible tab, shown in the editor's step list.
What you interacted with, an identifier for the element you clicked, its position and size on the page, the point you clicked, and the page's scroll position.
The page's address and title, so steps can be told apart and shown in order.

This means a step contains whatever was visible on screen at that moment, including any real customer data, account names or personal information displayed by the application you are recording. You control this by choosing what to record. We recommend using a demo or test account rather than a live customer account.

Steps are stored locally in the extension's own storage and sent to the Demo Maker Pro desktop application running on the same computer, over a loopback connection to 127.0.0.1 that does not leave your machine. The extension does not send captured content to us or to any third party.

So that a finished demo still works offline, the extension does download the stylesheets, fonts and images that the page you are recording refers to, from wherever that page hosts them. Those requests are made without your cookies or sign-in details, and what comes back is embedded in your local recording.

Captured steps stay in the extension's storage until you clear them with Clear steps in the extension, or until you remove the extension. Removing the extension deletes them.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In practice: information the extension obtains is used only to build the demo you are recording. It is not sold, not used for advertising, not used for credit or lending decisions, and not transferred to anyone for any unrelated purpose. No person reads your captured content, except where you send it to us yourself for support, or where we are required to act for security or legal reasons.

What Desktop Capture records

Desktop Capture is a separate recording path, for programs that are not web pages. It does not involve the browser extension. Nothing is recorded until you start a capture session in the application and press the capture key, and the session ends when you stop it.

Each press records an image of one window (whichever window is in front, or a specific program if you chose one) along with that window's title, the name of the program, and the window's size. Nothing else on your computer is read: not your other windows, not your files, not your clipboard, and not what you type.

As with browser recording, that image contains whatever was visible in the window at that moment, including any real data on screen. You control this by choosing what to capture. We recommend a demo or test account, and reviewing a demo before you share it.

Desktop captures are held in the project on your own computer. They reach us only if you choose to publish that demo, exactly as browser steps do, and never if you only export HTML.

What the desktop application stores

Projects are stored on your computer as files you choose the location of. Editing, previewing and HTML export all happen locally.

The application communicates with our servers in only two situations: to verify your license, and when you publish a demo.

What happens when you publish

Publishing uploads the demo you built to our hosting and returns a public link. At that point the demo's contents are stored on our servers and served to anyone who has the link.

Published demos are not indexed or listed publicly, and the link contains a random identifier that cannot be guessed. However, anyone who has the link can view the demo, so treat a published link as public.

You can delete a published demo at any time from My Cloud Published Demos in the application. Deleting removes the files from our servers and the link stops working immediately.

Analytics on published demos

A demo you publish to our hosting records anonymous usage so you can see how it is being used, how many people opened it, how far through they got, and where they stopped. This is switched on for published demos only.

An exported HTML file never does this. The measurement is added by our server at the moment you publish, so a file you exported and host yourself contains no analytics code at all and sends us nothing, ever.

For each view of a published demo we record: which demo, which step the viewer reached and when, whether they finished, how long they spent, the browser family and device type, the country if our hosting provider tells us, and the website they arrived from (the site's address only, never the full link).

What we deliberately do not do:

No cookies and no browser storage. Nothing is written to a viewer's device.
No IP addresses are stored. The address is converted into a one-way value mixed with the current date, so viewers can be counted for one day and cannot be recognised the next, not by us either.
No names, email addresses, form entries, keystrokes or anything a viewer types. Only which step was reached.
No tracking across websites, no advertising, and nothing shared with an advertising network.
Global Privacy Control is honoured. A browser sending that signal is not measured at all.

The person who published the demo can see these figures for their own demos. We do not sell them, and we do not combine them with anything else.

Licensing data

License keys, activations and entitlements are handled by LicenseSeat, our licensing provider. When the application verifies your license it sends your license key and a device identifier, and receives back whether the license is valid and what it includes.

The device identifier is a generated value used to enforce how many devices a license may be used on. It is not a hardware serial number and is not used to track you.

Account and billing data

If you buy a subscription or request a trial, we collect your name, email address, and optionally your company name. Payment card details are handled entirely by our payment processor and never reach our servers.

We use your email address to send your license key, receipts, and messages about your subscription. We do not sell your details to anyone.

This website

This site does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Forms on this site collect only what the form asks for.

How long we keep things

Published demos, until you delete them, or until shortly after your subscription ends.
Trial demos, removed shortly after the trial ends.
Published demo analytics, up to 400 days, then deleted automatically.
Account and billing records, for as long as required for tax and accounting purposes.
Captured steps in the extension, until you use Clear steps, or remove the extension.
Desktop captures, held in your project on your own computer; we hold no copy unless you publish the demo.
Projects and exported HTML on your computer, entirely under your control; we hold no copy.

Your rights

You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email support@demomakerpro.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Deleting your account removes your published demos. Export anything you want to keep first.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects how your data is handled, email active customers.
